This is a tragic story on multiple fronts, both for the victim and the accused perpetrator. Homelessness and the terrible state of our mental health system in the United States can contribute to death and suffering, and that appears to be what happened this past Friday night on the city metro rail in Charlotte, NC:

Healing our culture not only includes criminal justice reform, but also mental health system reform. My heart goes out to everyone involved and affected by this situation, especially the family, friends and community which loved 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska.
